Device for removingclots from cerebralvenous sinuses

About project

Our mission is to develop the world’s first device for removing clots from cerebral sinuses associated with cerebral venous thrombosis. The company received support as part of the AlfaBRIdge project implemented by the National Center for Research and Development  with the participation of the Terra Seed investment fund.

Innovation in interventional neuroradiology

The aim of the project is to develop the world’s first device for removing thrombus from cerebral sinuses associated with cerebral venous thrombosis. The designed innovative shape of the device may allow its safe use in the future within the hard-to-reach and delicate areas of the brain sinuses. CAD device will allow for better clot holding and more efficient removal without excessive impact on the delicate walls of the venous sinus.

Background Of Idea

Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a cause of strokes in young adults, occurring most often around the age of 33 with a prevalence of about two-thirds women. The essence of the disease is the partial or complete closure of one or more large venous sinuses. The resulting impairment of blood outflow leads to an increase in venous pressure and local passive congestion.

Solution

According to current recommendations, the first choice treatment is pharmacological treatment in the form of various combinations of anticoagulant therapies. At this time there are no devices available for mechanical thrombectomy, dedicated and registered for CNS (central nervous system) venous sinus occlusion. Treatment of CVT with mechanical thrombectomy is currently a procedure of last chance for patients who have failed to achieve regression of radiological and clinical symptoms after anticoagulant treatment at therapeutic doses.
